The Om Holistic Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders – Dedicated to helping each child find inner peace and be the best THEY can be.

Om is not a word but rather an intonation, which, like music, transcends the barriers of age, race, culture and even species. There is harmony, peace and bliss in this simple but deeply philosophical sound. It encompasses all potentialities and possibilities; it is everything that was, is, or can yet be. We see that as hope. In the end we are not offering a cure but, offering help and hope to parents and children affected by these disorders.

The ancient art of yoga is proving to have great benefits for children on the autism spectrum. Yoga comprehensively addresses their heightened anxiety, poor motor coordination and weak self-regulation. Yoga is particularly instrumental in helping kids with special needs learn self-regulation. By becoming aware of their bodies and aware of their breathing, yoga provides them with the ability to cope when they start to feel anxious or upset.

For children with autism or developmental disorders, massage can provide relaxation, stress reduction and calm muscle spasms. Over time, touch therapy also helps the child to become more accustomed to tactile stimulation and aides in body awareness. Often by incorporating massage therapy into daily routines, children with ASD experience decreased issues with sleeping.

As you all know, advocacy has been a piece I wanted to add to Pop.Earth for some time. As the parent of a child with Autism, I know how important it is to have a team of people on your side that understands your child’s rights and the choices you are entitled to as a parent. Too often, the resources parents seek are scattered in more than one place and in some cases it’s too much information to process. We also cannot forget costs involved, especially if you needed legal advice (ie. school district placement disputes, IEP’s, etc).

Regardless of age and ability, improving physical fitness is a very important aspect of a healthy lifestyle. To maintain health and fitness, it is important to include “strengthening” and “conditioning” exercises. As of January 2017, Pop.Earth added the Phoenix Fitness program, which is comprised of classes that focus on sensory integration, functional strength, stability, and coordination.
